DEPUTY OF EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AUSTREVICHIC: POLITICAL PERSECUTION OF POROSHENKO CONTROVES UKRAINE’S EUROPEAN INTEGRATION COMMITMENTS

MEP Petras Austrevicius, an influential Lithuanian politician, has warned Zelenskyi’s administration against political persecution of Ukraine’s fifth president, Petro Poroshenko.

Austrevicius wrote about this on his Twitter page, commenting on Poroshenko’s interrogation in the SBI scheduled for today.

“The Association agreement obliges Ukraine to fully adhere to the rule of law and other fundamental principles. There cannot be any politically motivated prosecutions,” Austrevicius said.

We will remind that previously the People’s Deputy from “European Solidarity” Mykola Kniazhytskyi initiated the report of National police, SBI and SBU regarding pressure on cultural institutions.

On June 2, Artur Herasymov announced that European Solidarity demanded the dismissal of the SBI leadership due to lawlessness at the Honchar Museum.

On May 26, Petro Poroshenko and his wife Maryna hold an exhibition of paintings by artists with Ukrainian roots from their own family collection at the Ivan Honchar Museum. Petro Poroshenko also ironically thanked the heads of law enforcement agencies “for speeding up” the opening of the exhibition.

Then SBI officers arrived and broke down the door to the museum, using force against journalists and deputies. Security forces stormed the museum building without providing any permits.

“Priamyi” journalist Hanna Dzioba said that during the assault of the SBI, she received several blows to the abdomen and chest with elbows.

Later it turned out that the SBI security officers stole customs declarations for the paintings.
